MOUNT CARTHEW
Elevation: 2630m
Difficulty: Easy
Round Trip Time: 4-6 hours
Height Gain: 1000 m
Map: 82 G/1 Sage Creek

Though more of a plod than a scramble, Mount Carthew is sometimes ascended by day-trippers hiking Carthew-Alderson trail or as a destination in itself. The ascent is a minor but worthwhile diversion from the trail. From the top you can wistfully study more impressive summits in nearby Glacier Park and a choice of two routes up offer variety. Try from late June on.

Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies, Alan Kane, 1992, 1995, 1999. Used by permission Rocky Mountain Books.

From the trail above tiny Summit Lake switch-backing trails are easily seen in the red argillite leading up to the false summit of Mount Carthew. The true summit lies nearly a kilometer north of the peak seen here.

Sorry... We're working on it.
